My steps are slow as I make my way to Cohen’s office.

He never calls me into his office. Normally, I just barge in whenever, so I feel like a kid seeing the principal.

I knock and slowly open the door when he yells for me to come in. He peeks up at me from his desk, a thin smile on his face, looking almost keyed up.

I rack my brain for reasons he’d be this tense.

Does he know about Archer and me?

Is Archer dead in his office?

Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him all day.

Lately, Archer’s mood has been as grumpy as Red Forman’s. While Archer and I crumbled on the ski trip, Cohen and Jamie came together. Unfortunately, their happily ever after was happily ever short-term since they’ve already crashed and burned.

He scratches his neck. “I need to talk to you about something.”

“Okay?” I shift from one foot to the other.

“Archer’s brother is being released from prison.” He frowns. “He’s going to work here.”

Phew.

“Cool.” I shrug.

From what I’ve heard about Lincoln, minus the whole prison vacay, he sounds cool.

“You’re not against the idea?” He squints at me harshly as if he’s waiting for me to object.

“Nope.” I crack a smile.

He blows out a stressed breath. “You should be.”

“Oh, big bro.” I collapse onto the chair across from him, sitting on it sideways with my feet dangling over the armrest. “Convicts are actually my cup of tea. If he doesn’t have a teardrop under his eye, I will be severely disappointed.”

“Funny,” he grumbles. “For real, if you’re not okay with it, tell me.”

“I’m cool with it.”

“He was in prison.”

“What’s your beef with second chances?”

He massages the space between his brows with two fingers. “It’s kind of hard for me to be gung ho on second chances now that I have my son’s mother trying to wedge herself into our lives while I’m falling in love with her sister, and it’s been a nightmare.”

“That sounds complicated.” I chew on the inside of my cheek before clicking my tongue against the roof of my mouth. “Have you tried eating a Snickers or something?”

He grabs a piece of paper, crumples it up, and tosses it at me.

I laugh while dodging it, and the sheet falls to the floor.
